The public’s ability to participate in management of our national forests is fundamental to protecting the shared values that these lands provide, such as clean drinking water, wildlife habitat, cultural values, recreation, and climate mitigation. The current administration wants to close the door on meaningful public participation, while at the same time they are dismantling the bedrock environmental laws that the public relies on to defend our public forests from corporate greed. Drastically shortened comment periods, less notifications, limiting submissions, and emergency determinations are all strategies to undermine public involvement and streamline destructive projects.
